Check your Google 2-Step Verification Setting

When your password is updated, Google will ask you to sign-in with your new password. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you can use the Google 2-Step Verification method that you had set-up with your Google account. If you should be out of the country when you change your password, or the phone number that you set-up for a voice or SMS message has changed, you’ll run into problems when you try to login to Google. We also recommend that you have at least 2 methods available. We highly recommend the Google Authenticator be one of those methods.

Change it while you are on-campus

When you change your password on campus, a few things happen magically because you are already connected to several computer resources. If you change your password when you are off-campus, you will need to reconnect to computer resources as you use them. In some cases, you may even be prompted to enter your old password until all of the systems are aware that you had made a password change.

Ensure that your cell-phone number is correct

Our self-service password reset program (which you would use for a forgotten password) has features that require a cell phone number.

To check or change your cell phone number, login into inside.fandm.edu and click the My Info Link. Then click the Update Addresses and Phones link. In the Permanent Address section, look for the cell/mobile field in the phones section and make sure your cell number is correct. It MUST say cell/mobile next to your phone number so the computer system knows it can text you!

Confirm your connection to eduroam

When you change your password, eduroam may want to get reintroduced to your device. This will allow you to access F&M resources. If eduroam does not recognize your device, it will likely connect you to the F&M Guest Wi-Fi service, where you won’t have full access to F&M resources. If this should happen, you will need to re-establish access with your new password by forgetting your wireless connection to eduroam, and then reconnecting to it. Instructions on re-registering your device on eduroam can be found at go.fandm.edu/eduroam. You may want to move the eduroam network to the top of the list as well, to ensure that it is at the top of your preferred networks.

Sign Out/In of Nomad

All Apple computers owned by the College, have a service program called Nomad. Click the small triangular icon that appears along the top of the screen, and select Sign Out. Then select Sign In and enter your new password (you may be prompted for your old NetID password if the computer needs it). This will reintroduce your computer to the computer network, and update your KeyChain password at the same time.

Update your keychain

Apple computers use a keychain to authorize programs to be used on the computer. With one login, the computer knows it’s you and lets those programs run. When you change your password, the keychain program may complain when it sees you are using a different password. If it does, just select the Update Keychain option and you’ll be fine.

Reboot your Computer

And finally, we recommend rebooting or restarting your computing device. A reboot is a good way to confirm that your old password has been cleared out of all applications that had been using it. It also confirms that your new password works for all of the applications that require it!

Update all of your devices with the new password

Most devices have the ability to remember your password. If you change your password, you have to tell those devices the new password. Update your secondary computers and your mobile phone if you use F&M programs such as the Gmail or Google Drive App.
