Overview
This article provides instructions for Franklin & Marshall faculty, staff, and students on how to save a transcript of a Zoom meeting using the AI Companion. Saving your transcript ensures you have a searchable, written record of your discussions and decisions made during a session.
Before you get started
- The meeting host must have the AI Companion enabled in their Zoom settings.
- The meeting must be currently in progress with the transcript feature active.
How to
Follow these steps to access and save your meeting transcript before the session concludes.
Accessing the Transcript
- Open the Zoom application and join your scheduled meeting.
- Verify that the AI Companion is running; you will typically see a glowing icon in the top-left or bottom toolbar.
- On the bottom control bar, click the More button (represented by three dots).
- Select Transcript from the pop-up menu.

Saving the Transcript Locally
- Once the transcript pane opens on the right side of your screen, review the text to ensure it is capturing the audio correctly.
- At the bottom of the transcript window, click the Save Transcript button.

- You will see a confirmation message; click Show in Folder to locate the text file on your computer.
Note: You must save the transcript before you leave the meeting. Once the meeting ends, the live transcript pane is no longer accessible unless the host has enabled cloud recording and cloud transcriptions.
Important Notes
- Privacy: Always inform meeting participants if you are recording or saving a transcript of the conversation.
- Accuracy: AI-generated transcripts are highly effective but may struggle with specialized terminology or strong accents; always proofread for critical information.
- Timing: If you forget to click Save Transcript before the host ends the meeting, the local file will not be generated.
