How to connect to F&M's WiFi network for students, faculty and professional staff. Includes instructions for both personal and college-owned computers and personal mobile phones.

Overview

Eduroam is a wireless network service that allows students, researchers, and staff in participating institutions, to obtain Internet connectivity on their campuses as well as when visiting other participating institutions. After setting up Eduroam on your device, you can connect to any Eduroam network at participating institutions. The app ensures you have the most secure network connection for the best experience.

Connect to the Eduroam network on Mac OS

1. Student or FPS:

  • For students: Continue to Step 2.
  • For FPS: You will need to enable Admin Privileges in order to make these modifications. Here’s how:
    • Click the Privileges icon.

  • Click Request Privileges
  • Continue to Step 2.

2. Open your network connections.

  • Click the WiFi icon.

  • Click WiFi Settings.

3. Choose Eduroam. Click Details.

4. Click Forget This Network.

5. Click Remove.

6. Open your network connections. Select Other Networks. Click Eduroam.

7. Click Connect.

8. Enter your NetworkID@fandm.edu and F&M password.

9. Click OK.

10. When prompted to Verify Certificate, click Continue.

11. If prompted to Allow Changes to Your Certificate Trust Settings, click Continue.

12. If prompted, enter your network password and click Update Settings.

13. You have successfully re-connected to Eduroam. 

 

Connect to the Eduroam network on Windows

1. Student or FPS:

  • For students: Continue to Step 2.
  • For FPS: You will need to run Make Me Admin in order to make these modifications. Here’s how:
    • In Search type "Make Me Admin".

  • Open Make Me Admin.
  • Click Grant Me Administrator Rights.
  • Continue to step 2.

2. Open your network connections.

3. Open your Eduroam connection, click Disconnect then close your network connection.

4. Re-open your network connection and choose Eduroam from your Available Networks.

5. Click Connect.

6. Enter your NetworkID@fandm.edu and F&M password.

7. If prompted to "Continue connecting?" click Connect.

8. You have successfully connected to Eduroam.

 

Install on iOS Device

Install the app on your device to maintain the most secure connection to the network. Follow these steps once, and then it is set for future connections:

1. In your device’s App Store, search for “geteduroam.”

2. Install and open the app.

3. Search for organization: Franklin and Marshall College.

4. Enter your Username as your NetworkID@fandm.edu.

5. Enter your F&M password and click Log In.

6. If prompted to join WiFi Hotspot Network, click Allow.

7. If prompted to join Eduroam, click Join.

8. Click Connect.

Note: After this installation process, you won’t need to log in when you connect in the future until your password changes.  After changing your password, you will need to open the app and enter your new password. 

 

Install on Android Device 

Install the app on your device to maintain the most secure connection to the network. Follow these steps once, and then it is set for future connections:

1. Go to the Play Store on your device and search “geteduroam.”

2. Install and open the app.

3. Search for organization: Franklin and Marshall College.

4. Enter your Username as your NetworkID@fandm.edu.

5. Enter your F&M password and click Install.

6. If prompted to join WiFi Hotspot Network, click Allow.

7. If prompted to join Eduroam, click Join.

8. Click Save.

Note: After this installation process, you won’t need to log in when you connect in the future until your password changes.  After changing your password, you will need to open the app and enter your new password. 

 

Install on Chromebook

Troubleshooting

Unable to establish a connection after using the How To instructions? Try the Eduroam Installer

You will need to (1) download the Eduroam installer and then (2) install the app.  Here's how:

1. Connect to a network to download the Eduroam installer: connect your computer to the FandM-Guest network through your WiFi settings.

2. Open a web browser.

3. Navigate to https://cat.eduroam.org/

4. Click Click here to download your eduroam installer.

5. Launch the installer (from your Downloads folder).

6. Follow the on-screen prompts to Install. Note: Your Username is NetworkID@fandm.edu and your password is your F&M password.

7. After installing, go into WiFi settings to see available networks.  Choose Eduroam and click Connect.

After this installation process, you won’t need to run the installer again until you change your password. When you change your password, run the Eduroam installer on your computer using your new password, and then you will have the ability to connect. 

 

Reconnect after being away 

If you are away from campus for an extended period of time you may need to re-connect to Eduroam. On your computer, simply forget or disconnect from the network, close out of that dialogue box, then re-open it and choose Eduroam -- as explained here in this Article.  On your phone, you may need to find the Eduroam network and log back in.

 

Update your password

If you re-set your password, then you will need to update your password in your Eduroam accounts, as explained here in this Article.

Other Important Notes

Connect Other Devices

Devices such as smartTVs and gaming consoles should not connect to Eduroam. Instead, please use the fandm-iot WiFi network.

 

Campus Guests Using the WiFi Network

Guests visiting our campus should not connect to Eduroam. Instead, please use the FandM-Guest WiFi network.
