How to Connect to F&M's WiFi Network (Eduroam)

Summary

How to connect to F&M's WiFi network for students, faculty and professional staff. Includes instructions for both personal and college-owned computers and personal mobile phones.

Body

Overview

The Eduroam Wi-Fi network is F&M's wireless network to connect your work/school laptops and mobile devices for everyday use. Eduroam is also available at thousands of academic and public institutions. After you set up Eduroam on your device, you will be able to use your F&M credentials to connect at any Eduroam-participating institution -- including colleges, universities, and research facilities.

Before you get started

When on campus, you can connect your device to the Eduroam Wi-Fi network after you: (1) run a downloadable application (called Geteduroam) and (2) enter your F&M credentials.

While you do have the ability to connect to Eduroam without running the Geteduroam app, we do not recommend it. Running the app safeguards against any malicious security threats that could compromise your personal data when you are connecting. After initial installation, your device will automatically identify and connect to Eduroam without needing to run the Geteduroam app installation again.

Notes:

  • If you have a college-owned computer, you already have the Geteduroam app installed. You don't need to run the installation until you:
    • Change your password
    • Elect to forget the Eduroam network in your system settings

Then run the Geteduroam installation process as described here.

  • If you have a personally-owned computer, you will need to install the Geteduroam app as described in this knowledge article. Then run the installation again when you:
    • Change your password
    • Elect to forget the Eduroam network in your system settings

Then run the Geteduroam installation process as described here.

Please come to the Help Desk in Martin Library of Sciences and we will help you install what you need.

Important Notes

After the Geteduroam installation process, you won’t need to run the installer again for routine connections. However, there are times you will want to run the installation process again:

  • When you change your password, run the Eduroam installer on your devices using your new password.
  • If you are away from campus for an extended period of time, we recommend you re-connect to Eduroam. On your device, forget the network, and then follow the instructions in this knowledge article to install Geteduroam and re-connect.

Streaming devices, such as smartTVs and gaming consoles should not connect to Eduroam. Instead, please use the fandm-iot Wi-Fi network.
