Add Duo Mobile (When Your Phone Is Not in the System)

Summary

Provides instruction on what to do if you don't have a phone in the F&M system to use for Duo multi-factor authentication.

Body

Overview

Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is needed to access F&M system applications like course selection, timesheets, Degreeworks, student records, and others typically accessed through myDiplomat.  When you log into one of the F&M apps that requires Duo MFA, you will be required to: (1) enter your NetID and password; and (2) use your device (cell/mobile phone) to verify it's you.

This will happen automatically if you have a cell/mobile phone number in the system (myDiplomat). But if you don't have a cell/mobile phone in the system (myDiplomat), then you need to set it up so you can receive notifications. This Knowledge Article explains how to do that.

  • The Continue button will become enabled on your computer screen; click it.

Installation complete!  We recommend you test it by trying to log into one of the applications in myDiplomat, and make sure to update your phone number in myDiplomat while you are there.

Update Your Phone Number in myDiplomat

It is important to keep your student information up-to-date. After registering for Duo Mobile, log into myDiplomat and enter your mobile phone number in the My Info section.

1. Log into myDiplomat. You should receive a push notification on your phone to Approve your log-in. (Make sure you have your push notifications on for Duo.  If you don't, then turn them on in your phone's Settings, and then log in again.)

2. Click Navigation > My Info > Manage Personal Information.

3. Scroll to Phone Number. Click Add New.

4. Enter the same phone number you used for your Duo Mobile registration.

  • The number should be in 3-digits, followed by 7-digits format.  The first three numbers of your phone number should go in the Area Code field, and the remaining numbers should go in the Phone Number field.
  • You should only have ONE Cell/Mobile phone number entered; it should be the one you want to use for Duo multi-factor authentication.

5. Click Add.  Your mobile phone is now up to date.

Routine Sign-Ins

When you log into one of the F&M apps that require multi-factor authentication (such as those in myDiplomat), you will enter your NetID and password.  Then use your device to verify it's you by approving the push notifications sent to your phone.

1. Enter your NetID and F&M password.

2. A push from Duo is sent to your phone. Click Approve.

3. You are now securely logged in.

IMPORTANT Note:  Make sure you Allow Notifications for the Duo App in your phone's system settings.
