When accessing F&M’s Google applications, you will be prompted to confirm your identity on your mobile device through Google 2-step Verification. To learn how to set up Google 2-step Verification, visit this knowledge article. You can choose from four verification methods, as detailed below.
How To
Choose the best 2-step verification method
There are four different methods you can use to verify access to your F&M Google apps. We recommend you use the Google prompt by way of the Google app on your phone. You only need a WiFi connection, and the prompt will come to all devices where you install the Google app.
Here is a quick look at all four methods.
- Google prompt: When you sign in to a new device, Google can send a confirmation prompt to every phone where you’re already signed in. Just tap the prompt to confirm it’s you.
- Good: You don't need a cell connection -- WiFi will do. (This is the method we recommend.)
- You will need to install an app on your phone. While we recommend you install the Google app (i.e. Gmail) as explained in this knowledge article, you can actually get the prompt through any Google app you have installed on your phone.
- Phone number: You can receive sign-in codes at these numbers. (This is a good back-up.)
- Good: You don't need an app; it comes to the phone number you have on file.
- Watch-outs: You need cell connection, and it may not work when traveling in other countries.
- Authenticator: Instead of waiting for text messages, download the Google Authenticator app.
- Good: A reliable method.
- You need to install the Authenticator app on your phone and set it up via a QR code you can access through the set-up in the Security section of your Google account settings. You need to scan the QR code on your phone in order to sync your phone to your Google account. This method is fine, just a little trickier to install.
- Backup codes: While not recommended, you do have an option to print a list of codes to keep with you that you can enter to sign in. Keep these backup codes somewhere safe but accessible.
- This method is supported by Google.
- Keep in mind you will take the chance you lose the numbers or someone else will access them, so we don't recommend this option.
