Overview
Samba (SMB/CIFS/Windows Share) Mounts, If you're mounting an SMB share on campus to collect and share data you'll need to mount that in the following ways.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The shares on the domain and your user accounts are set up on the fandm.dom domain. The fandm.edu domain is an alias which points to the fandm.dom domain. To authenticate to an SMB share you have to use fandm.dom as your server and user domain!
How to
FOR WINDOWS:
- On your keyboard press Win + E to get to the File Explorer. You can also type File Explorer in the search bar, or just open up any folder.
- Left click on This PC to see all of your drives. At the top click on Map network drive. You can also right click on This PC and choose Map network drive there as well.

- Next choose a drive letter you want to use for this drive. Typically choosing one at the end of the alphabet is best. This will identify the network share as a drive letter. It's also best to check the box "Connect using different credentials" if the computer you're using has a different password than your F&M netid and password. Ex. personal laptop.

- In the folder box type in the server and share location of the share. For example if I'm trying to get to the chemistry folder on the server academicfiles.fandm.edu I'd type: \academicfiles.fandm.dom\fandm\NMR\user

You can also just type in the server and hit the Browse button to find the folders you have access to. It will ask you to authenticate and you can browse which folders you want to mount.

- Type in your credentials using the .dom domain as below. You can check the "Remember my credentials" box so you don't need to keep having to authenticate when you click on your share.

- Once authenticated you'll see your share mapped to your chosen drive location in "This PC"

IMPORTANT NOTE: The shares on the domain and your user accounts are set up on the fandm.dom domain. The fandm.edu domain is an alias which points to the fandm.dom domain. To authenticate to an SMB share you have to use fandm.dom as your server and user domain!
FOR OSX (MAC):
- The easiest way to get to where you can mount a share is to hit the Command key + K on your keyboard. You can also find it in menu bar under Go > Connect to Server.

- Once you're at the prompt type smb:// and then the server and share name you wish to mount. Note the forward slashes in the server name with OSX: //
- If you click the + button you can save the SMB share in your Favorite Servers list. If you're using an F&M domain joined computer it will mount the share automatically. If not, You'll need to authenticate with your F&M netid and password as is the case in the image below:

The network mount will automatically show up on your Desktop and as you browse your hard drive.
