Body

Overview

F&M uses follow-me-print technology, also known as pull-printing, which means you can print your documents to a shared queue, and then the documents will "follow you" to any printer on the network you want to print from. This way you can avoid busy printers, print from a printer that is convenient for you, and avoid the mistake of someone else taking your print job. There is a fee for each page you print that will be charged to your department or student account.

How To

Send a document to the printer

1. Click File.

2. Click Print.

3. Select destination printer as the Toshiba-Papercut option in the drop-down.

  • If using your personal computer/laptop and Toshiba-Papercut is not listed, then you will need to install the printer app: 1) Make sure you are connected to the Eduroam network. 2) Download and install an app for your device at this location. You will find the file in your Downloads folder; progress through the prompts to install it on your device.

  • This printer app should already be installed on F&M owned computers, but you can re-install it from your list of available applications.

4. Click Print.
5. The print job is now in the queue.  You may proceed to any printer on the F&M eduroam network, scan your badge, and then review the print jobs in your queue to print.

Print a document you sent to the printer

1. After you choose Print from the menu option and send a document to your printing queue, you can go to any printer on campus on the Eduroam network and scan your badge.

2. All of the print jobs in your queue will display.

3. Choose the one(s) you want, and tap Print. If there are documents in your queue that you no longer want, you can tap to select them and delete them.

Note:  Print jobs stay in your queue for 24 hours.

Select custom/special paper to use for your print job

1. In the application you are printing from, you will need to go into printer options, set the paper feed to Bypass, and click Print.

2. Proceed to the printer you want to use to print.

3. Open/pull out the bypass tray on the right side of the printer and load your paper.

4. Scan your badge to print, and on the printer dialog box, select the Bypass Tray as the Output Tray.

11. Click OK.

12. Tap Print and make sure Toshiba-Papercut is selected.

13. Use any printer station to release your print job.

Best Practices

  • The printing stations are multi-functional devices and can also be used to scan to a file (to email or save on USB drive) or to make a photocopy. There are some printing stations on campus that can also be used to FAX.

  • On college-owned computers, including those in the library and the Innovation Zone, a local PaperCut print driver has been installed that will allow you to customize your print job to include options such as folding, stapling, or hole punching.

  • You can check the status of your print job and see what is in your queue here. Enter your F&M NetID and password to log into the application.

Troubleshooting

The first time you print, you will need to register your ID:

1. Scan your ID card on the printing station.

2. Use the touch screen or pull-out keyboard to type your F&M NetID and password.

3. Tap Set.

If you scan your badge but don't see your print job, you can check on the status.

If you want to see what documents have been sent to your print queue, go to go.fandm.edu/papercut and log in (user name is your NetID, do NOT include the @fandm.edu). If you don't see your document in the queue, then that means you did not send it to print, so you will need to send the print job again. Print jobs stay in your queue for 24 hours, so you will need to release the print job within that timeframe.

Operating System

Be sure you have the latest operating system software installed on your mobile device.

Special note for Mac computers

We recommend using the Safari browser when installing the PaperCut software on your personal Mac device. The first time you attempt to print after installation, a system dialogue box asks for your user name and password.

1. Sign in using your F&M NetID and password, NOT your computer username and password.

2. Check the box "Remember the password in my keychain" and click OK. This allows the setting to hold for future use.

3. If you don't see this prompt on a Mac, click the refresh button in your browser and see if it prompts for user name and password.

If you miss a step, you can complete the process this way:

1. Make sure you are connected to the Eduroam network.

2. Open the Papercut queue to see if you have a job that says "hold for authentication."

Screen capture showing Papercut queue.

3. Click the reload icon to the right of the held job. This will open a dialogue box for credentials.

4. Enter your F&M NetID and password.

5. Check the box next to "Remember this password in my keychain."

6. Click OK.

Also on Macs:  If you created a Notes document using scanned images or screenshots, or if you had more than one scan, then you must click to open the file before printing.

Other Important Notes

Student workers

Student workers need to have a special fob provided by their supervisor. They should only use it when printing documents related to their work. The fob should always remain secure within the department because anything printed with the fob will be charged to that department.
